Backstory:

This is a picture of the Hernandez-Valencia family taken in 1942. Mexican-Americans had high rates of military service in the United States, including the service of the Valencia’s oldest son during World War II. Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church often took pictures of large families and published them in church commemoration booklets as a way to celebrate mothers and having large families.
