Backstory:

Local 1033 was the local of the United Steelworkers of America union for the Republic Steel plant in Southeast Chicago. Local 1033 included many African-American steelworkers and photographs document their strong involvement in strike and union activities. This photo was taken from a display on the history of Local 1033 kept in union headquarters on the East Side.
