Backstory:

This video documents a commemoration held at the Local 1033 union hall on the East Side in 2005. The event commemorates the Memorial Day Massacre which occurred during the Little Steel Strike of 1937. During the strike, ten strike supporters at the Republic mill in Southeast Chicago were killed by city police and nearly a hundred wounded. Clips include “Singing ‘Solidarity Forever’” and “Laying FLowers to Commemorate the Dead.”
